Lessons on Spending Money

While the Terengganu state government were doing some cost cutting measures by buying brand new Mercedes E-200 Kompressors for their Exco members, the Johor state government were busy spending RM23mils as well.

How did they spend the money??

“A total of 686 houses were repaired and 50% of 1,070 houses were built”

This was done by the state government to achieve our target of zero poverty by 2010. The state currently has  9,492 poor families of which 51% are hardcore poor. The houses with three bedrooms cost RM26,300 while the two-bedroom houses were priced at RM22,300

Well done to the Johor state government on these efforts. I hope the house reaches the intended targets and not some horrible middle men who end up snapping it up to sell or rent them out!

Kompressor for Terengganu

While Penang keeps making noises that they are not getting enough money for the state,Kedah wondering how to raise funds for development,Selangor planning not to change their cars Terengganu have announced that their Exco will get E200 Mercedes Kompressors.

This new fleet of cars will cost the state government  RM3.43 million for 14 units for these new cars. The full report was on Utusan Online and on Rocky’s and on Tok Mommy’s.

Excerpts From Utusan:

“After having made a study, the state government finds that in the long run, it is better to use a new car to replace the Perdana V6 Executive which has been in use since more than four years ago.” - State Secretary Datuk Mokhtar Nong.

Who does these research??

I was at Kerteh a couple of weeks ago for some work and while i was there the only thing that ran on my head was, since this is the “oil state” of the nation, why is conditions soo poor? Imagine a scenario when fuel was not the main source of economy in the state? My guess it would be another Rantau Abang case.

Rantau Abang used to be a big tourist attraction with the landing of the leatherback turtles and big crowds of tourist used to flock the modest town, due to poor management the turtles have stopped landing there and Rantau Abang is nothing but a cowboy town!

With all this happening, the Exco has decided to spend the money they have on the way they ride instead of investing it back into the state.. I’m pretty disappointed with this news.Surely that there are the standard of living is not the best, if only this money could have been spent on development of the state and increasing the standard of living…Now that could have gone a long way!

Terengganu debacle

When the elections were over and results were announced, there were 5 states that fell to the opposition. Out of which there were 3 which had a mix between PKR,PAS and DAP winners thus calls for a mixed opposition government. All states were straight forward except Perak when a PAS candidate was choosen as the Menteri Besar. At first there was some resistance from DAP who won most seats in that state. You have to understand that the opposition has never been in such a a scenario to react in a favorable way straight away. The problem was resolved within days and the systems were all go.

The rulling party straight jumped on the bandwagon saying all sorts of things about the opposition governments formed. Then Terengganu happened. Its more then 2 weeks after the general election and the drama still goes on. Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, appointed Ahmad, the State Assemblyman for Kijal as the Menteri Besar and the PM wanted incumbent chief minister Idris Jusoh to be re-appointed as the chief minister.

The king looked bad as the government wanted their man while the king appointed someone else. Why so much drama in a state that looks like the under nourished state of country?

Hmmm….. Which state is Petronas based?

I hope it all gets resolved as soon as possible and the people of Terengganu get what a certain portion of the state enjoys!

Still No Terengganu MB

Almost more the 2 week since the elections and Terengganu still does not have proper leadership. The BN government want Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh and the Mentri Besar from Regency Advisory Council (MPPR) chief Tengku Sri Panglima Raja Tengku Baderulzaman had already handed Datuk Ahmad Said his appointment letter as the new Menteri Besar at a closed-door ceremony at Istana Tetamu in Kuala Terengganu at 8.20am yesterday. There seems to be lots of drama going on there and with Petronas sitting pretty on Terengganu land um not surprised that this is happening.

Wonder when this will be resolved and hopefully who ever assumes power is there for more then the resources available.
