What would you like to be called?
When someone ask you what are you, what do you say?
Malay?
Chinese?
Indian?
or
Dan Lain-lain?
We have heard how we are potraited as a “multi-ethnic country” that live peacefully but then within the country we are addressed by where we pray. In my view religion is something very personal thats exactly why we respect religion so much, when you offend a religion, you are offending a person.
Using religion to gain political mileage is cheap in my view. Yes, we need to educate the masses about how we are all Malaysians and we are all equals.
Politickler wants to know what you think!
There is a poll setup on the sidebar for everyone to tell us how you would like to be called…
Please….enlighten us all ![]()

I want to be known as a Malaysian,
And by that i do not mean Chinese-Malaysian or Indian-Malaysian
Like the US folks do to differenciate btwn the blacks and the whites.
I simply want to be known as a Malaysian, born n’ bred in the country i have came to known as my own.
As a frequent traveller, it would be inevitable to bump into a Malaysian one place or another. The wonderful thing is that whenever we are out of the Malaysian soil, we would call ourselves as Malaysians. You do not hear a Malay calling themselves Malays or Chinese, simply Chinese. Everyone simply goes around announcing themselves as Malaysian.
Why then coming back to Malaysian soil, do we subject ourselves to being called a Malay, Chinese, Indian or even Lain-lain?
By removing the stigma of racial identity do we only see ourselves as an entity. Why can’t we remove the race column in our forms? So that we can still be classified by our race?… Talks about national unity if these were not address is simply hog-wash to me.
Why can’t the Government get this trough their heads… or they don’t?
to me there is no difference..why must change to malaysian? we are malaysian and should not be so carried away of naming oursleves malaysian? will this make malaysia better? i dont think so? so let it remain as it is..if u love yr country which is Malaysia we do not need to change ourselves and be call as malaysian.. just look at our neighbor? spore? indonesia? philippines? thailand? think hard guys..do’t just do thing for the sake of doing..
