Japanese killed, 13 injured in tour bus accident

JOHOR BAHARU, Malaysia: A Japanese tourist was killed and 13 other passengers injured when a tour bus skidded and overturned along Malaysia’s North-South Highway on Tuesday.

Bernama news agency quoted Johor Traffic and Public Order Chief DSP T. Raveendran as saying the incident happened at about 3pm when the bus was heading from Malacca to Desaru in Kota Tinggi, Johor.

He said the tour bus skidded and overturned while trying to avoid crashing into another vehicle at KM51 along the North-South Highway near Air Hitam, Kluang.

“The victim Hhibata Nehieo, 83, died of serious head and bodily injuries,” said Raveendran.

He added that the bus was carrying a group of tourist from Fuji TV heading for Desaru after having visited Malacca.

All the injured were rescued by PLUS Highway officers and passers-by. They were later sent to the Kluang Hospital and Sultanah Aminah Hospital for treatment.

Raveendran said the police would record a statement from the driver of the tour bus
